Playing with Texture ~ Studio Art class ~

The students were limited to use only Black ink. The focus was to learn first of all how to play with their tools (brushes,etc...) indefenitely. In the first class on March 3 they learned to constantly change their gesture in order to create unlimited texture results with the use of their simple tools and with no intention to draw something, but just to play. In the second class the following week they could draw anything by implementing some of those textures... or continue playing. What they learn here is that the quality of their image doesn't come necessarily from their ability to re-present "reality", but as much from the quality of their texture! which is much easier to achieve.  If we are looking at beautiful textures, anything they draw becomes beautiful or worth looking at for the viewer... it can be a strange, inaccurate form and the student lacking technical skill to re-present Nature realizes they don't necessarily need to be  "good technically" in order to create nice drawings.

In My Class "Studio Art I" Students learn to do "dot drawings"
They can pick any image to draw from... I am seeing more and more students using their cell phone to search for images as you can see in this video.
